The Wish

Well, after seeing "Forever Under", one may not be specifically impressed with this one as it plays on an overall, very similar concept. Of course the concept itself if not what determines the piece as a whole (not by my standards anyway), but this had to be written.

Moving on to the actual critique - as mentioned, those who are familiar with your, previous work can definately see resemblance between the two. The feel is different, with the former being more of a sad piece, while this one is actually more hopeful, but there's still that nagging feeling "didn't I saw that somewhere?". True, the overall effect fits the vision, so for most part one can let it split, as artwork should be, for most part, taken in separately.

Originality, with what I've wrote by now, is a tad hard to decide; it's seemingly different and yet "the same". The subtle differences are there, yet to a lyman these are purely cosmetic and ones he/she may not fully care about. For the piece's message point of view, this work fares much better in that regard, but being objective, I just couldn't leave that mention out.

Like with "Forever Under" the technique is still amazing; having nothing to do with "originality", this category greatly compliments the piece, easily showing the recipants stuff that are the key elements of this work. Especially the way you play with "light" leaves a very nice effect, gently guiding the viewer through the pic.

As an unrelated work, the impact of this piece does its work - the weak light wrapping around Twilight sparks that hopeful feeling that whatever it is she's wishing for may actually come true, while the bleak trail of the falling star, barely visible at first glance, amplifies that feeling. The plain background compliments that effect, leaving the young pony to herself and her dreams, further playing on the aspect of the meteor disappearing behind the flat horizon, just like hopes are fleeing emotions.
The wide, starry sky seems to be overshadowed by the streaks of light and dark that travel through the pic, almost like weighting whether the wish should come true or not, adding the tiniest bit of anxiety into the mix.

Overall the piece can protect itself nicely; it's biggest "flaw" is the existence of "Forever Under" that uses similar scheme. Of course it's completely dependable on personal preference if one finds that fact important or not in grading this work.
I myself try to view each piece separately from others (unless it's a collection of sorts) and in that this piece turns out good; it just lacks that "surprise" it's "older brother" had, lessing the impact, if ever so slightly.
